I'm trying to load Minecraft with forge and Optifine together with no success. I'm using Optifine 1.12.2_HD_U_E2 along with Forge #2729 which is the version supposedly compatible with it according to Optifine's changelog. I've also tried earlier versions of Optifine with their respective compatible versions of Forge but I get the same result. Forge does load normally without Optifine in the mods folder, and Optifine works without Forge. I've also tried having Optifine extracted into the mods folder as per its own launcher instead of placing the jar file as it was downloaded, same result. The game doesn't actually crash, simply appears to fail loading after selecting the forge profile from the launcher; I get a black screen and it stops responding indefinitely.  Other mods seem to work fine like WorldEdit, but whenever Optifine is involved, no can do. Since I can't find any specific error messages and I'm sure I'm using the versions said to be compatible with each other, after trying several things I'm completely at a loss. Here is the latest log file, with no other mod in the folder except for Optifine. Let me know if there's any other file I should be providing, and thanks in advance.

Please provide debug.log, it has more information in it but I can't promise anything, sadly.

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.

How long is "indefinitely"?

I assume you left it overnight to come to this conclusion?

Try removing shadersmod.

I didn't leave it overnight, but I did leave it for around half an hour; the minecraft window stops responding almost immediately after launch and stays in an unresposive black screen until I force close it, while normally it should take a few minutes to load at most. Also I don't have the shaders mod installed separately, since the newer versions of Optifine come with it already. I did remove the shaderpacks folder altogether but that didn't change the result, just created a new blank one.

Not the shaders folder, did you install a mod called shadersmod?

No. If there's something like this, must be a part of Optifine because I don't have anything else installed. As I said the newer versions of Optifine already come with shaders functionality so no need to install anything else, and the only difference between having minecraft launch normally or not is the presence or absence of the Optifine file in the mods folder.

Then I'm not sure there's anything that can be done other than removing Optifine, sorry.

I completely uninstalled Minecraft and reinstalled a fresh copy, then Forge and finally added Optifine and it seems to work now. Maybe there were remains of conflicting mods somewhere even though I had nothing in the mods folder apart from Optifine itself. Anyway, thanks for your help.

Dreamuur, I know this is old but so thankful you posted this screen. I was looking for optifine in the mods and didn't realize it showed running in bottom left! I've been racking my brain over this for at least an hour. Thank you!
