A couple times forge crashed and we lost hours of progress

I was using latest forge for 1.11 and a couple times the game crashed (probably ran out of ram). It's not that bad it happens a lot, but we lost hours of progress. Isn't minecraft supposed to save occasionally? Is there any way I can make it save more or some way to force a save? Any ideas appreciated.

skeddles, it is probably normal, when I run my Minecraft sometimes it crashes so I wait or spam left clicking and it works... If you're having problems with the mods not going on your server, it is probably for a different version of forge.

Failed loading villager cartographer registered at cartographer - frozen tick

Allocated 10 Gb of ram. Could try again with more but I read using too much can slow things down as well. Going to try another big modpack and see if i can replicate the problem. It seems like this cartographer problem is kind of popular and doesn't have a solid solution yet, but i suspect its some generation mod since it's a crash that happens when specific chunks are being loaded. so i'll still try to lookout for what mod it could be as i add. i'll report back after testing as you suggested for a bit

I have no idea - is enough RAM allocated?
Do other pre-configured modpacks work? Maybe use such a modpack as working base and add new mods one by one

The settings.gradle file has been fixed. But, the build.gradle has an error now.
