Modded server not working on Mac

Hi, I am trying to set up a modded server and I am having trouble running the forge jar.  The name of the jar I am trying to run is: forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2768-universal.jar

When I double click to try to run, a message pops up saying: The Java JAR file "forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2768-universal.jar" could not be launched. Check Console for possible error messages

Never mind I found a fix, I had to get Java again, I don't know why but it worked now

This is the same issue I run into . What Java is the one to have ? Cause I have the Java mse development kit 16 and I got it from the Java. Web site should I have a different version? Cause my forge won’t open either and when I run it with the command line it tells me the same thing
