Hello all, I have been trying to set up a new modded server for myself and friends to play on, I got as far as getting the .bat file set up but when I run it to finish loading everything I need for the server it tells me it can't access the .jar file it says the following:

Error: Unable to access jarfile minecraftforge-universal-1.12.2-14.23.5.2768.jar

Which is the name of the jar file it should be running. Can anyone help me please?

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

Windows hides file extensions by default so the installer may appear without the .jar extension then when the .log is added the log will appear with the .jar extension

Where to get it:

Mojang Launcher: When using the Mojang launcher debug.log is found in .minecraft\logs.

Curse/Overwolf: If you are using the Curse Launcher, their configurations break Forge's log settings, fortunately there is an easier workaround than I originally thought, this works even with Curse's installation of the Minecraft launcher as long as it is not launched THROUGH Twitch:

If you don't see logs generated in the usual place, provide the launcher_log.txt from .minecraft

It says forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2768-universal, I got it from this site from the recommended download section windows install.

I used the same process for setting it up as I did for a non modded server that worked perfectly fine with the same type of line in the .bat file, only difference is the numbers. Also I tried removing words and rearrange them same issue happens.

Checkout your file names in your start bat file, i already see the wrong file name on that bat.

Here's the tip: there's no file named as minecraftforge-universal-1.12.2-14.23.5.2768.jar, but there's file with some different name)
