Issue when joining modded server: io.netty.channel

I get this error when trying to join my friend's modded server

 

I've looked this up and I've mostly seen it connected to something about the firewall, however even after I set an exception to java and turn off the firewall I still get this bug. I have also seen someone saying that the version might not be the same in the .json file but I'm not sure what to change

Damn this is annoying, the server was running for about 10 minutes before I got that server log. I'll get a new one and see if it's different
