I'd like to get the current trades available to the current player from a villager to conditionally render some accessories, based on whether or not they are for sale.

However, in the method doRenderLayer of my LayerRenderer, using

MerchantRecipeList currentPlayerRecipeList = entitylivingbaseIn.getRecipes(Minecraft.getMinecraft().player);

always results in getToolUses() being 0 for every available item, and so isRecipeDisabled() always being false, even if in the trading gui the recipe is disabled. Clearly I am not getting the list correctly, but I've had a look at the gui rendering (which clearly is getting the correct list as recipes do become disabled), and it seems to use the same method, and clearly both are taking place on the client.

What am I doing wrong?

code display improvements

When the villager GUI is open minecraft sends an additional packet to the client that populates the recipe list. See EntityPlayerMP#displayVillagerTradeGui
