Forge refusing to install on Mac

Hello, I'm having trouble getting forge to work on my iMac.

 

I've got the installer (forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2768-installer.jar) but it says that I require a JDK (Java Development Kit) in order to open it. Do I really need this? I've seen videos of people on Mac installing this version of forge without a JDK (or without any indication of one). I don't really want to install anything I do not *need*. I'll even admit I wouldn't know how to use the JDK properly, so again, I don't want to waste the space (even though it isn't very big).

 

Any help will be much appreciated.

*I have got it to work by installing the JDK.

 

My error message said it could not be run without a JDK. This was my issue; it refused to allow me to run the forge installer and said I needed the JDK to do it.

I am having the same problem. Our Mac gives an error message saying I need a JDK to run the installer. I tried downloading a JDK (the computer gave me a link) but I'm not sure I did it right, as I'm still getting the same error message and Forge still won't install.

 

Not very knowledgeable about computers and I don't know what to try next.

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.
