What I'm trying to do:

The objective is to remove the floating nametag above a player. Whether or not the box remains there is fine, but I need to remove the nametag. This should be clientside only. It still needs to interact with a vanilla 1.5.1 server though.

What I've checked:

I've combed through EntityPlayer and RenderPlayer a couple times along with several other classes. I'm not sure of the behavior of the code in rendering the name, but I feel like there should be like 4 lines to comment out or change the display by showing an empty string.

Any knowledge/ideas in this is greatly appreciated. I know Java quite well, but interpreting all of this code and knowing exactly what will not affect other parts of the code is a little over my head. I've been working on this for hours just to identify what code is displaying the tag...

func_96450_a? But it's not a good practice to directly modify base classes, this should be done via ASM library (or maybe Player API).

mnn.getNativeLang() != English

If I helped you please click on the "thank you" button.

Oh...is it? Is there some information/tutorial on setting up that library?

So the other thing I could do is make it so my render distance for name tags is zero. Which may be easier.

ASM is not for beginners inn programming. I'm not saying this to crucify or bulley new modders/programmers but it is not the easiest thing inn the world and I can't change that.

You need to have your mod be a core mod to utilize ASM. You can read a bit about it here http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Using_Access_Transformers

and I suggest you google it a bit before you decide to use it.

As I said above it's not easy but if you know Java very well, then take a look and you should be able to tell what ya need to study before ya begin ;)

If you guys dont get it.. then well ya.. try harder...
