Sorry if this has been asked.  I did search the forums first and google as well but had no luck.  I am just coming back to Minecraft and trying to get mods working.  It seems to be hard to find a lot of good mods for 1.14.4 as modders have left from what I can tell.  I cannot find a 1.14.4 version of Mo'Creatures, Pixelmon is dead etc.  I am wondering if you can use Forge alongside with Datapacks?  I know some mods are using Forge but some of the Datapacks that I like are not in Forge.  Can you use them hand in hand or is there a trick to it?

I appreciate answers truly.

And about the lack of "popular" mods for 1.14.4, keep in mind that the recommended version for 1.14.4 was released just a couple of days ago, I'm sure some of them are on their way to 1.14.4.

Ahh ok, I literally just came back so I had not kept up with when things launched.  Ok so a few questions.

1.  When I install optifine it creates an optifine launcher, do I still use the Forge launcher or do I use the Optifine at that point?

2.  On a side note, as Mo'Creatures has not updated since 1.12.2 I am sure there won't be any other releases.  Does anyone know of any good 1.14.4 mods that give new creatures.  To explain further, the only reason we ever leave Minecraft as a group is I get bored with the simplistic fighting and lack of new mobs.  The rest of the group love the building / crafting etc where I am our hunter / gatherer.  I have looked at other games and we just have not found a good match.

Mo'Creatures gave me a more random experience vs oh yay another skeleton.  I am looking for a mod like that, that adds in new creatures and some more randomness to the game again.

3.  What is the best website these days to find safe and updated Mods?  Preferable Forge Compatible but in general is good too for datapacks.

4.  Is there a favorites list for the general modding group.  When I search favorite mods, I tend to just get peoples pages that are paid, etc.  Is there a list of known mods that people tend to use in the community.

As always, thank you.

As it has been for years now, CurseForge should be your primary (if not only) source for mods, and yes there are already loads of mods for 1.14.4.

As it stands right now Optifine's compatibility with Forge is a single preview version that targets an old beta version of 1.14.4 Forge, so no guarantees of compatibility with the newer versions.

Running Optifine and Forge together (assuming you have compatible versions of both) is the same as it always was, put Optifine in your mods folder like any other mod.

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.
