Hello everyone! As you can tell, I'm new around here. Glad to join the forum and I hope to contribute to the community however I can.

I have MC Java Edition and I'm having a struggle trying to make Optifine work on the latest Forge version. I'm using Forge's 1.14.4 28.1.90 version, and also OptiFine's 1.14.4 HD U F4 version. Forge is correctly installed, it loads up normally and the game starts; but when I join the game I try to check the mods and it doesn't show up Optifine at all. There are no error messages or warnings, it just won't load the mod.

I tried to extract it to the mods folder as the "_MOD" version, and also tried to extract the folder itself to the folder, but it didn't work as well. I also tried to install it, but it creates another MC version (which is not what I want, as I want to put OPT as a mod along with many others).

What could I possibly do to make it work - or what "workaround" could I do to make it so?

Thanks in advance for any help!

EDIT:  also, if you need any more pictures, let me know.

I don't think Optifine loads as a Forge mod anymore, I think it loads as a ModLauncher plugin.

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.

Just tried to search for that mod/plugin but I didn't get anything - I found Bukkit on the results tho. Is it the ModLauncher you're talking about? I thought it was server only.

ModLauncher is not something you install manually, it's essentially the middleman between the Minecraft Launcher and Modded Minecraft, Forge installs it automatically.

lol Oh my God, I must be freaking stupid; I was trying to show it up on Forge, however it loads just fine on the Minecraft itself - All of the video settings and even the shader menu options are showing up.

It's been a long time since I've played MC for real, so I didn't quite get it as I should. I apologize for taking your time @DaemonUmbra, but I do also thank you for trying to help me out!

I could use some help on this topic.

I already had Optifine installed but now I want to use mods and play with Forge.

How do I do this?

Because everywhere I look people just say ''install Forge first'' but I can't uninstal Optifine so how can I do this?

You misunderstand how the system works, both Forge and Optifine (in its standalone form) install as if they were Minecraft versions.

To run Forge with Optifine simply install Forge and select it as your desired Minecraft version, then put a Forge-compatible version of Optifine in your mods folder.

Note: The existence of a Forge-compatible version of Optifine for your desired Minecraft version is not guaranteed.

Im trying to get this working with Forge 1.14.4 and have the mod in the server's mod folder (and it looks like it's loading) but can't see the graphics options/shader stuff when i connect with the forge client 1.14.4  to the server. Thought may be if I dropped the mod in my client's mod dir too but that didn't work. What am I missing? Can you see the settings somewhere other than the client?

***i installed Forge Client to C:\MCForge Client 1.14.4 after copying the contents of my appdata/roaming/.minecraft folder in there, and added new installation profile pointing there***

I don't see where I ever told you to copy the contents of .minecraft anywhere

You didn't. I was explaining what how I had messed around configing stuff trying to get it to work. That was the part on how I had configured Forge for a separate 1.14.4 profile, not the mod itself, which I only included for clarity.

You should only ever install Forge to .minecraft, as that is where the Launcher looks for versions
