Im making a mod that tracks kills of a certain mob and I created a screen overlay to display the value (not necessarily relevant)
I want the values to be saved when the game is closed.

I want to do this by creating and using a .dat file.

how would I get the values from the file and how would I save the file?

Mojang Launcher: When using the Mojang launcher debug.log is found in .minecraft\logs.

Curse/Overwolf: If you are using the Curse Launcher, their configurations break Forge's log settings, fortunately there is an easier workaround than I originally thought, this works even with Curse's installation of the Minecraft launcher as long as it is not launched THROUGH Twitch:

Yes, just properly register the statistic and vanilla will track it for you

ok, let me explain that its not a custom mob its a client-side only mod that tracks the kills of a mob with a certain nametag on a server

I dont understand what you mean, all I want to do is have my mod create a .dat file and then read and parse values from said file
