(1.15.2) The game crashed whilst exception in server tick loop

I downloaded some mods for 1.15.2 my friends have been using for a while, however upon creating a world my game crashes instantly- I'm not smart enough to understand the crash report so I'd appreciate some help 

The game crashed whilst exception in server tick loop
Error: com.google.gson.JsonSyntaxException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Expected BEGIN_OBJECT but was STRING at line 3 column 1 path $

One of Infernal Mobs' configs is incorrect, delete all of their configs or provide debug.log for more info on which one

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

 

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

I haven't changed any of the configs so they're default, and I have no idea where to find debug.log

Wonderful I had to track it down manually because atomicstryker isn't using the Forge config system...

C:\Users\ophel\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\config\infernalmobs.cfg

I'm not really seeing anything wrong with the config file as it's the default configs (https://gist.github.com/dweamy/4c4a8be72cfa375c8b58062acb56e7a7) but should I still delete the config file or just remove the mod from the bunch?

That's not the default file I get from the mod... is this config coming from a modpack?

Have you played with infernal mobs in the past?

Have you never set the Game Directory of any of your "Installations"?

Have you never cleaned out .minecraft/config?
