Posted June 20, 201312 yr I need some help figuring out how to render a placed block as a sprite, similar to how Thaumcraft's nitor is. I think it will serve my purpose better than a custom model, and I'd think, will be easier to implement.
June 25, 201312 yr Author Nitor isnt a block that renders as a sprite. It is an item that places a block. The block that Nitor places is rendered as a sprite with accompanying particle effects. It's definitely what is going on there, but I don't know enough OpenGL stuff to figure out what to do to replicate the effect.
June 25, 201312 yr You need an ISimpleBlockRenderingHandler. (Whew, that is a mouthful.) BEWARE OF GOD --- Co-author of Pentachoron Labs' SBFP Tech.
June 25, 201312 yr Author You need an ISimpleBlockRenderingHandler. (Whew, that is a mouthful.) Thanks for the push in the right direction! Now I just need to figure out what the parameters are for rendering a sprite.
June 25, 201312 yr You can use ISimpleBlockRenderingHandler or if you're using a tile entity, you can extend from TileEntitySpecialRenderer (or you can use both at the same time). Thaumcraft doesn't use either of them though. It uses particles.
June 25, 201312 yr Author It uses particles. So basically the main orb is a mostly static particle? I considered that idea, but I'm pretty inexperienced with particles, so I'll have to do some research!
