Hello, I tried installing it the normal way into the 1.6.1 jar but, every time I try and launch the game, the jar file is redownloaded. What am I doing wrong?

Minecraft now redownloads the jar if any of the default types are changed. If you're editing "1.6.1.jar", Minecraft will overwrite the jar because of the new mechanics.

You need to copy the jar file and create a new version, such as "Modded1.6.1.jar". How to do that is shown in this video:

The gist of that video is:

- Copy the version you want to a new folder

- Name the folder

- Name the jar with the same name

- Edit the name of the .json and the name inside the json with the same name

You can then create a new 'profile' in the launcher that will use your custom jar file.

Thanks for the response. So, I followed the video tutorial but it still doesn't launch the correct file. It showed up under local as a new one, but I can't seem to get the launcher to launch it.

Ok I got it to launch, but, the game isn't modded. Any reason why? I double checked the jar, and it is modded.

Alright just to confirm/update. According to the log, it is launching the correct jar file. However, that jar file seems to not have minecraft forge even though, I installed it in there.
