[1.16] How to update gui textures upon player clicking button?

Hello there I am asking for your help in learning how to update the foreground text in my screen.java file so when the player clicks on one of 6 buttons it updates the number value displayed on screen. I am currently in the middle of taking a java class so I am a little new to this but I would appreciate some help. Also I would appreciate if you give some criticisms about how to structure it better.
