In the lower left corner of the launch screen are new profile and edit profile buttons. Click on either one and in the middle of that is the Version Selection with a dropbox list of previous minecraft versions next to the text Use Version. Select 1.7.2 to use with the 1.7.2 version of forge and forge mods. Another common version to use is 1.6.4 since many more mods are available with that version.
