  1. Though you might be able to replace it yourself if you want. Not completely sure since I've never thought of doing that.
  2. Have you tried rebooting?
  3. Why are some versions named like "forge-[mc]-[forge]-installer" while others are "forge-[mc]-[forge]-[mc]-installer?"
  4. Finally got around to trying my original plan of renaming the jar, and it seems to have worked. In hindsight, it is kinda pointless trying to save drive space via forcing the newer versions to overwrite the old. The space saved is negligible, and not much reason to poke around that folder. .minecraft\versions\VER\VER.json .....Under libraries, replace "net.minecraftforge:forge:#.#.#-##.##.#.####" with "net.minecraftforge:forge:CUSTOM" .minecraft\libraries\net\minecraftforge\forge\CUSTOM\forge-CUSTOM
  5. Only thing I can think of to do is to add the mods a few at a time fully launching the game and closing back to launcher to figure out the problem mods.
  6. This is exactly why I semi-automated keeping up to date. This used to be a more frequent problem back when Forge updated almost daily. What was with 13.19.0.2135 - 13.19.0.2148 (for MC1.11) all being the same day?
  7. What OS are you using and what command prompt? I've done a Windows PowerShell script that automatically downloads the latest Forge and mods from curseforge for a given MC version if that's anything like what you're attempting. Takes a little prep work though.
  8. Isn't this what spongeforge was for? And another option was a "cauldron server," but I've never tried it. Not sure it's still going since the problems with Bukket.
  9. Ohh... Seems I needed to extract the jar from the installer jar, or get the non-installer jar from Jenkins to make it work. Couldn't just drop the installer jar into the mods folder. In my defense, dropping a jar from within a jar into the mods folder is kinda an odd thing to try, and I had no idea what "Jenkins" is.
  10. I already known about LiteLoader extending Forge from the installer window. That's what I did to get the preexisting LiteLoader .json. What I needed was a simple way to tell LiteLoader to target a new Forge from Powershell. Right now, I have it set to place the variables I used for the Forge into the "inheritsFrom" of the template LiteLoader .json like it would be normally, and overwrite the one in the versions folder. I know the version selector in the launcher works with a custom "id," so I need to check if "inheritsFrom" also works with a custom "id."
  11. Not hating. Just saying it was clever. I really don't mind the ads since they only take like 5 seconds.
  12. I didn't notice it until 6 months ago while poking through the source code. Cleverly hidden in the info where hardly anyone looks.
  13. Soo... I decided to go the alternative route of having a preexisting LiteLoader version .json with minor edits for easy replacement to target the latest Forge installed earlier in the chain, and I stumbled upon custom version names as a pleasant side effect. Still on topic, so posting here in case anyone is interested. Okay, Custom version names takes a hella lotta work by hand, but I think it looks nice (probably just me) and, for automation, it actually serves a very important purpose of a static file path (still a hella lotta first time prep though.) .minecraft\versions\CUSTOM NAME\CUSTOM NAME.json "id": "CUSTOM NAME", Note to Self: Need to check if "inheritsFrom" targets within the versions folder. That was actually what I meant to ask. Didn't know what's what at the time.
  14. Okay. Will try it when I get home.
  15. Guessing I can't just ask you to humor me. It's for my automation thing. I know it's been a hella long time since I mentioned it. Got put on the back burner due to updates coming slowly at the time of testing it. I got everything working except for automating LiteLoader. I'm asking here because I was wondering if something simple like renaming some Forge files would allow LiteLoader to be just once a Minecraft version with the Forge being a set name while being overwritten with the latest stuffs for that MC version. I promise to withhold the scripts if you request me to, but I'll understand if you choose not to help. If anything, at least posting this would help me remember to get to it.
  16. My goal is for the .json to find the Forge .jar under a custom name. Is it as simple as renaming a few files/folders? I would try myself, but I seem to get all my ideas at work where I can't try them.
  17. Forge itself is safe, but there is a few scareware ads on the webs which apparently gotten onto AdFoc.us When you encounter a page looking like a fake blue-screen or virus scan, the safest thing to do is to leave immediately with the "close tab" shortcut for your browser. If it brings up a prompt box, be extra cautious. Some scareware has fake prompt boxes where every option, even close, would download the virus. When in doubt, ctrl+shift+esc to open Task Manager and "End Task" your browser from there. A real antivirus service my techie father recommends is ESET, but it isn't free.
  18. Le sigh. Guess I'll miss out on my next day off than trying to learn Java.
  19. Like the Subject line says. Is there a command I can send to the shell to automatically tell the installer jar to install client to the .minecraft directory on Windows? The moderators probably remember why I want this, and this is all that's left to do for it. I'm just way more lost with Java since I can't even begin to guess the search terms I need to use.
  20. So automating that part is gonna take a bit of work (though I'd add a bit to flicker onto the adfoc.us if that helps.)
  21. Of course it's about money. *takes a deep breath* So if you get paid for the ads, is the Curse client also harming your income? I don't use it myself since I can't figure out how to get LiteLoader with Forge on it, but it does offer Forge itself.
  22. So can this be used to automate downloading the latest version? I'm kinda rusty on this stuff since getting a hard labor job.
  23. This is more of a suggestion for the site itself, and I'm aware Lex can be quite... "you know" with suggestions he deems unworthy. Soo... Something that randomly came to mind one work day was automation, because it can be quite bothersome trying to make the "checking for updates" ritual part of my morning routine since they're so frequent. So on Curse, I've noticed the orange "Download" button for mods appears to be a static link to whatever is the latest version. Now what I'm suggesting is maybe having a static address for the big red buttons to link to for downloading whatever is the latest version at the time. I'm aware this might require uploading the latest version a second time to overwrite the previous version for the static link to lead to, but it would help immensely with automating the downloads so I don't meet with the "update available" light compelling me to close the game and launcher and going through the process.
  24. You owe me a new keyboard now, Emer. I broke mine with my face after reading your posts. http://i.imgur.com/gLQGW9t.jpg
