not able to download mod

i have been trying to install a mod to forge 1.8.9 (sidebar mod) i have been able to do the first step: pressing on the button and see it download, but when i press: open it just does nothing so im not quite sure how to go about this.

 

1.8 is no longer supported on this forum.
Please update to a modern version of Minecraft to receive support.
