Hi. My Son has used Forge 1.8.9 for quite a while now ( at least I believe it has always been a modded version and not standard 1.8.9), and we have never had issues tracking his play time and limiting it through Microsoft Family safety. However, about 3 weeks ago it stopped blocking it when the time limit was up. Still tracks the time, but doesn't block. I am assuming this is not something Forge does knowingly, or am I missing something about potential mods he could have installed?

It actually seems to happen with any launcher that has anything additional in the name other that the release version (so forge or any other modded versions) - or perhaps it's just modded versions? Have tried the latest forge to see if that helps, but that just crashes and won't even open.

Any ideas?

I can tell you that nobody on the dev team has tested this, though you might want to know that the game runs under the javaw.exe process (or java.exe if your child is crafty enough to change that setting) and not the launcher

Edit: Did a bit of testing and it looks like MFS tracks each Minecraft version separately because they start with different window titles.

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.

Yes, I am aware of this, that is why I know it is only modded versions that are no longer blocked.  The standard releases are.  The modded ones are still tracked but not blocked. I have tried limiting Java, but that has no effect.

The modded games have a slightly different title. And mods can change the window title as well. Honestly, limiting applications solely based on window title sounds like a bad idea.

I don’t disagree with that. But it worked fine for a year and then just stopped. Still using the same modded version. I guess Microsoft changed something.

Hello.

I have the same issue. I would like to fix it so that limits will work as expected also for forged versions.

I don't understand why the forged version is marked by asterisk in window title (Minecraft* 1.17.1). For me, as a parent, it is still just Minecraft. ;)

I will ask Mojang/Microsoft to state just "Minecraft" in the title. First, only one window of Minecraft can be open at one time. Second, it creates an instance for each Minecraft's versions in Family Safety I need to set time limit for (and which child can play in the limit :( ).

I am asking you to exclude the asterisk from the title due to the same reason.

Thank you.

Lukas
