Hello,

I just wanted to know if it exists a way of generating programmatically a loot when you have the loot table.

In my case I've got the loot table from a resouce location but I don't understand how I need to use the LootContext ect ...

Here is my code :

ResourceLocation loc = new ResourceLocation(resourcePath);

LootTables ltManager = this.getLevel().getServer().getLootTables();
LootTable lt = ltManager.get(loc);
LootContextParamSet ltps = lt.getParamSet();

LootContext.Builder builder = new LootContext.Builder((ServerLevel) this.level);
List<ItemStack> generated =  lt.getRandomItems(builder.create(ltps));

TLDR, in order to generate loot from a loot table you need to pass in all of the relevant context for that kind of loot table, because "I just need cow loot" requires knowing if the cow was on fire. And if the player was holding a sword with the looting enchantment.

Etc etc etc.

So you need to specify where the loot is being dropped, who cause it to drop, what is being dropped, and so on. All of that it put into the loot context builder.

Look for existing usages of LootContextParamSets

(Oh and be sure to pass the result through ForgeHooks.modifyLoot)

Hello,

Thank you for your anwsers, I finally succeeded. I have just one more question :

Why in the code below, the parameter TOOL is not considered ? Indeed, when I try to generate loot from a cow, it generates beef whereas I added a parameter TOOL with a diamond sword with fire aspect, so It should generate Steak.

ResourceLocation loc = new ResourceLocation(resourcePath);

LootTables ltManager = this.getLevel().getServer().getLootTables();
LootTable lt = ltManager.get(loc);

ItemStack sword = new ItemStack(Items.DIAMOND_SWORD);
sword.enchant(Enchantments.MOB_LOOTING, 3);
sword.enchant(Enchantments.FIRE_ASPECT, 1);

Vec3 position = new Vec3(getBlockPos().getX(), getBlockPos().getY(), getBlockPos().getZ());
LootContext.Builder builder = (new LootContext.Builder((ServerLevel) this.level))
                        .withParameter(LootContextParams.TOOL, sword)
                        .withParameter(LootContextParams.ORIGIN, position);

LootContext ctx = builder.create(LootContextParamSets.FISHING);
List<ItemStack> generated = lt.getRandomItems(ctx);

If you look at the loot table for cows, you'll see that it checks whether the entity is on fire to determine whether to drop steak; not whether the tool has Fire Aspect.

Please don't PM me to ask for help. Asking your question in a public thread preserves it for people who are having the same problem in the future.

Yes indeed :)

And for the looting enchant ? It seems to not be considered

No, LootTable#getRandomItems already does that.

👍

Haven't traced all the calls lately, as I haven't been doing any active modding.

I believe that is a separate context entry.

What do you mean about that ? Do you think it is possible to apply a looting effect to the LootContext ?

Yes, but like I said, it's been a while since I looked at the relevant code.

    • Hello all. I'm currently grappling with the updateShape method in a custom class extending Block.  My code currently looks like this: The conditionals in CheckState are there to switch blockstate properties, which is working fine, as it functions correctly every time in getStateForPlacement.  The problem I'm running into is that when I update a state, the blocks seem to call CheckState with the position of the block which was changed updated last.  If I build a wall I can see the same change propagate across. My question thus is this: is updateShape sending its return to the neighbouring block?  Is each block not independently executing the updateShape method, thus inserting its own current position?  The first statement appears to be true, and the second false (each block is not independently executing the method). I have tried to fix this by saving the block's own position to a variable myPos at inception, and then feeding this in as CheckState(myPos) but this causes a worse outcome, where all blocks take the update of the first modified block, rather than just their neighbour.  This raises more questions than it answers, obviously: how is a different instance's variable propagating here?  I also tried changing it so that CheckState did not take a BlockPos, but had myPos built into the body - same problem. I have previously looked at neighbourUpdate and onNeighbourUpdate, but could not find a way to get this to work at all.  One post on here about updatePostPlacement and other methods has proven itself long superceded.  All other sources on the net seem to be out of date. Many thanks in advance for any help you might offer me, it's been several days now of trying to get this work and several weeks of generally trying to get round this roadblock.  - Sandermall
    • sorry, I might be stupid, but how do I open it? because the only options I have are too X out, copy it, which doesn't work and send crash report, which doesn't show it to me, also, sorry for taking so long.
    • Can you reproduce this with version 55.0.21? A whole lot of plant placement issues were just fixed in this PR.
    • Necro'ing that thread to ask if you found a solution ? I'm encountering the same crash on loading the world. I created the world in Creative to test my MP, went into survival to test combat, died, crashed on respawn and since then crash on loading the world. Deactivating Oculus isn't fixing it either, and I don't have Optifine (Twilight forest is incompatible)
