warjort Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Quote JVM info: Oracle Corporation - 1.8.0_31 - 25.31-b07 Your java is old. Update it to 1.17+ Quote Boilerplate: If you don't post your logs/debug.log we can't help you. For curseforge you need to enable the forge debug.log in its minecraft settings. You should also post your crash report if you have one. If there is no error in the log file and you don't have a crash report then post the launcher_log.txt from the minecraft folder. Again for curseforge this will be in your curseforge/minecraft/Install Large files should be posted to a file sharing site like https://gist.github.com You should also read the support forum sticky post.
SolManX Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 (edited) Does Forge require a different version of Java to Minecraft? Minecraft runs fine. Edited July 13, 2022 by SolManX Quote
warjort Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 You can't run minecraft 1.19 with java 8. Mojang's launcher comes with a more recent version of java. But when you run forge's installer that won't be used. It will use whatever you have installed manually and is configured on your PATH variable in your environment settings, in your case 1.8.0_31. SolManX Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 (edited) I just updated to latest version and I'm now on Version 8 Update 333 (build 1.8.0_333-b02). No mention of 1.17+. What am I missing? Edited July 13, 2022 by SolManX Quote
SolManX Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 I posted the above before seeing your latest. Still I wonder why I'm not updating to the latest version. Quote
warjort Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Probably because Oracle changed the license to their java runtime environment. It is no longer "free". Try https://adoptium.net/ Quote Boilerplate: If you don't post your logs/debug.log we can't help you. For curseforge you need to enable the forge debug.log in its minecraft settings. SolManX Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 I was able to install Forge on a Minecraft 1.18 installation, so am I right in assuming that the requirement to use Java 1.17+ is new to Minecraft 1.19? Quote
warjort Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 The problem is likely caused by the root certificates that are included with java. When you installed 1.18 those certificates were still valid, now they have expired (remember your java is old). By updating java you get more recent valid certificates. Of course, old java might not be the actual cause of your ssl handshake problem at all. It is just one of the common causes. SolManX Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 (edited) Well I got there in the end. By updating java you get more recent valid certificates. That seems to have happened when I updated to the latest '8' version (build 333). So no need to install later versions - just update the current version. I really appreciate your help and time. Maybe this will help other folks too. Paul Edited July 13, 2022 by SolManX New info Quote
