As the title says, I've been having this question nagging me for a while, and its annoying for me since I don't know the answer, so maybe you people can help me.  And since this section of the forums seems to be the right place to ask this, ill post here

As minecraft itself updates (or forge updates itself to fix any bugs in one of its minecraft 1.6.2 release things), forge will update eventually to match the newest version of minecraft.  I know the installer gives you 3 options: to install the 1.6.2 forge client/profile for minecraft 1.6.2, to install its server version, or to get the main forge .jar file itself.  But if I end up getting a new version of forge from a future update someday, will installing the client again replace the current forge client, or make a new one.

I'm asking this so I know what settings to tinker with to make my mods work, and because so far, I haven't seen any topic that answers this.  I tried using the search function, but it went 404 on me (not an actual 404 error, but the search function gave me an error 3 times so far)

It installs a new 'version' Like you can have 1.5.2 and 1.6.2 on the same launcher.

It's up to the profile config to select what version you're running.

However! The Forge installer overwrite the 'Forge' profile. To what ever version you're installing. So if you play with the 'Forge' profile {It's literally named 'Forge'} then yes it'll change forge versions.

But if you run your own profile {you can have unlimited, int he profile manager} then you're fine and it wont change the version.

Check out the profile config it's fairly obvious what i'm talking about once you see it.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

Ok, I guess ill just have to wait until a newer version of forge comes out that fixes some bug or something and test it out

But one thing kinda confused me (mainly because of your spelling, it kinda threw some bits of your answers in a loop for me, not trying to insult you or anything LexManos); you said if I run my own profile, I can have an unlimited number of forge profiles; dies this mean if I edit the name of the profile to a different one, forge will think of that forge profile as a separate thing and instal a new forge profile, or just replace it.  Like if I rename the profile "Forge" to something like "Minecraft 1.6.2 forge" or something different, will it just install a new profile called "Forge" with ti being the newer version.

I tinkered with the new launcher settings for minecraft JUST enough on what to change if I want to get a better experience, but not that experienced like the people on this forge forum, so answer this next bit of my question please

Yes, there is also multiple versions of Forge out for 1.6.2 already.

Just go download two and test it out.
