due to the new forge disallowing base class edits and me not wanting to do them,

 

I was wondering if there was another way to edit these files without using ASM?

If you say "how to edit file", there i would answer:ASM, certainly.

But if you say "do i need to edit file", then i would answer:no, probably.

Well, okay my new question is how do i use my own guimainmenu instead of the original one?

There are events to disable rendering.

You can also render any parts of your gui on top of the vanilla one using rendering events.

I have my own main menu class, I dont want to just add a new button, i actually have my own menu

The aether mod has a main menu api. Try looking into that.

You can make a TickHandler for replace the GuiIngame, but this is the "Dirty" way.
