Posted August 19, 20232 yr Hey guys, I want to save the position of any right clicked block inside the main held block item and copy it to the block entity when the block item gets placed Is that possible? Thanks Edited August 19, 20232 yr by J3ramy
August 19, 20232 yr Create your own subclass of BlockItem and override Item.useOn() to store the "BlockPos/Level" in the ItemStack's CompoundTag. See BlockItem.BLOCK_ENTITY_TAG and its usage in vanilla for automatic copying of BlockItem data into the BlockEntity. NOTE: If you want the opposite, i.e. BlockEntity retains this data when it is broken into a BlockItem, you need to add this in your LootTable. e.g. The BeeHive does this if you have silk touch: https://github.com/misode/mcmeta/blob/853cf38d9bc78296e4fb87c8bd41b47b3757e99d/data/minecraft/loot_tables/blocks/beehive.json#L27 Boilerplate: If you don't post your logs/debug.log we can't help you. For curseforge you need to enable the forge debug.log in its minecraft settings. You should also post your crash report if you have one. If there is no error in the log file and you don't have a crash report then post the launcher_log.txt from the minecraft folder. Again for curseforge this will be in your curseforge/minecraft/Install Large files should be posted to a file sharing site like https://gist.github.com You should also read the support forum sticky post.
August 19, 20232 yr Author Thank you! How do I tell the actual block that this block item subclass should be applied. I haven't found any method to overwrite inside the block class Edited August 19, 20232 yr by J3ramy
August 19, 20232 yr The same as any other block with an item. Your BlockItem constructor should forward the "Block" parameter to the BlockItem superclass constructor. Minecraft will do the rest of the book keeping to tie them together. See BedItem or any other subclass of BlockItem If you want to understand how it really works ,see BlockItem.registerBlocks() and follow the rabbit hole.
