I used the Installer to make the server.

Everyone I see in videos and tutorials uses the Minecraft_server.jar and their mods run right. I don't get any errors and the items in the mods load but none of the functionality of the mods work. If I run Minecraftforge_Universal then the mods load and work. I just want to know how everyone else is getting that other jar to work and whether I'm doing something wrong.

What is the difference between those two server files?

Thanks.

minecraft_server is the vanilla minecraft server jar and will not load mods without editing

minecraftforge_universal is the jar containing all of our edits and running it will run minecraft_server, but with our changes.

The tutorials you've been watching are old, they have merged the two jars manually, this is a bad thing to do and you shouldn't be doing it.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.
