How do I make leaves transparent?

I have recently started modding, and I can now create blocks in around 2 minutes, but I am having some problems with making the leaves transparent, and for the leaves to decay.

 

I have had a look around the Minecraft leaves file, but because I am still a beginner, I don't understand half the stuff about arrays and such.

 

If you can help, please do so.
