Getting Started - Items with same ID

Hi, I'm new at minecraft Develop and I'm having problems to create items sharing the same ID, using damageValues.

 

I've followed the Tutorial http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Metadata_Based_Subblocks at the Wiki and it works with Blocks.

 

How can I do the same thing with Items? Can anyone point me a direction?

Yes you can simply do the same thing with items. You also can make more sub items than 16 just keep in mind that all the metadata variables are called differently in the Item Class. Use demage instead. Have a look at the dye item for an example.
