How can I give an item a default damage value? Because

package mods.makerimages.ElectronicaE.items;

import mods.makerimages.ElectronicaE.common.ElectronicaEConfig;
import mods.makerimages.ElectronicaE.common.ElectronicaEngineered;
import net.minecraft.block.Block;
import net.minecraft.entity.player.EntityPlayer;
import net.minecraft.item.Item;
import net.minecraft.item.ItemStack;
import net.minecraft.world.World;

public class ItemNoteBookWood extends Item
{

public ItemNoteBookWood(int id)
{
	super(id);
	setUnlocalizedName("itemNoteBookWood");
	setMaxStackSize(1);
	setCreativeTab(ElectronicaEngineered.electronicaTab);
	setTextureName("electronicaengineered:notebook_wood");
	setMaxDamage(100);
	setDamage(new ItemStack(this), 99);

}

}

wont work, the item starts out fresh, when taken from the creative menu.

There is

Item#onCreated

.

Actually, onCreated is only called after crafting.  It's not called when generated as dungeon loot, pulled out of the creative menu, or when using the /give command.

setDamage(new ItemStack(this), 99);

obviously won't work as every stack in your inventory is its OWN stack.  That item stack doesn't stick around very long.

The only method I know of is to wait until the item receives an update tick OR in the addInformation method.

Simply add the right itemstack to the subitems list for the creative menu.

Put the right itemstack in generated chest.

Put the right itemstack in the crafting recipe.

That is why all those use ItemStack instead of Item. There is no item default damage, that is the ItemStack's.
