Right now I think the textures are bugged. Have you tried on clicking the "Resource Packs" button? That reloads the textures.

If you want to know where to put the textures for 1.7.2 items then I have your answer.

 

From your main directory with your gradle files and forge logs and licenses, go to into the src folder. Next go into the main folder and then the resources folder. From here you have to make a folder called assets. From there you need to create a folder which is called the same thing as the part before the colon in your setTextureName() method.
