Posted March 18, 201411 yr How am I get to get the entity hit by a custom arrow. For example, I'm going to create a fire bow (w/o enchantments) - not doing this but just an example. Is there a method / event I can use? I am extending my arrow class to EntityArrow (also). Any help would be appreciated!
March 19, 201411 yr Look at how I've done it (important lines are marked): https://github.com/SanAndreasP/EnderStuffPlus/blob/master/java/sanandreasp/mods/EnderStuffPlus/registry/ServerEvents.java#L122-L124 Basically you use the LivingHurtEvent and check if the event.source.getSourceOfDamage() is an instance of your custom arrow class, if yes, do your stuff. This is not how learning works.
March 21, 201411 yr You could do that, but it's much cleaner (in my opinion) to take care of that inside of your projectile entity class, much like EntityThrowable etc. do. It's more difficult since EntityArrow's code is a mess, but if you break everything up into manageable pieces in your sub-class, you can avoid EntityArrow's onUpdate entirely and make your custom arrows extremely versatile.
