Do you have a GuiHandler? If not, you need one, and you need to register it so it can actually be called.

1.7.10 and older versions of Minecraft are no longer supported due to it's age! Update to the latest version for support.

Yes he is missing a GuiHandler, this is how it looks:

 

public class GuiHandler implements IGuiHandler
{

    @Override
    public Object getServerGuiElement(int ID, EntityPlayer player, World world, int x, int y, int z)
    {
        if (ID == 0)
        {
            return new MyContainer();
        }
        else
        {
            return null;
        }
    }

    @Override
    public Object getClientGuiElement(int ID, EntityPlayer player, World world, int x, int y, int z)
    {
        if (ID == 0)
        {
            return new MyGui();
        }
        else
        {
            return null;
        }
    }
}

 

I main mod class:

        NetworkRegistry.INSTANCE.registerGuiHandler(this.instance, new GuiHandler());
