[1.7.10] [Resolved] Connected textures?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I would like to create connected textures on a block. I have the block textures but I am struggling with the code. I think it's something to do with onBlockAdded but I could be wrong. Thanks in advance.

Well, if the player placed one of the block, the texture would be like this:

And if they place two of the block, they would look like this (connected texture):

Hi, youre going to need a texture for every possible state and register them in registerBlockIcons, then use the method onBlockAdded to detect if blocks of the same type are around and change the blocks metadata. use the method onNeighborBlockChange to detect if blocks of the same type are placed or removed later on and again, change the metadata. in getIcon you then return one of the different textures you registered depending on the metadata.. Hope that's not confusing :D

Or you could use an ISBRH, that would significantly drop down the amount of textures needed (from 47 to 2).

47? i came up with 16 :P

1 for no side connected

1 for all sides

2 for 2 opposite sides

4 for 2 sides in a corner

4 for 1 side

4 for 3 sides

well probably confusing maybe a ISBRH is better, dunno what that is ^^

Right now, you only count the possibilities for 4 sides, like if you look at it from the side, you check for up,down, left, right. But you also want to check for up-right,up-left,down-right,down-left. That makes a lot more textures (47). But of course, an ISBRH, it drops down to 2 textures.

ok, so what is an ISBRH?

Edit: I did some research, it stands for ISimpleBlockRenderingHandler correct? What exactly does that do?

It renders a block in a simple manner. :)

It has a lot less overhead than a TESR but also fewer features.

Alright, so how could I use a ISBRH to get connected textures to work? I am unable to find a tutorial.

You can check the surroundings with it, and if there's no block next to it, draw a line on the side, else don't.
