Posted January 26, 201510 yr Hey guys, I've been messing around with modding MC lately and I wanted to make a mod for a friend. I have him as a mob in my mod but not sure how to put a nametag above his name. I'm sure that this goes in the renderEntity class so if anyone can help me that would be awesome! renderEntity Class package com.skullcrusher.practicemod.entities; import net.minecraft.client.model.ModelBase; import net.minecraft.client.renderer.entity.RenderLiving; import net.minecraft.entity.Entity; import net.minecraft.util.ResourceLocation; import cpw.mods.fml.relauncher.Side; import cpw.mods.fml.relauncher.SideOnly; @SideOnly(Side.CLIENT) public class RenderEntityGamingOnCaffeine extends RenderLiving { private static final ResourceLocation Your_Texture = new ResourceLocation("practicemod:textures/entity/GamingOnCaffeine.png"); //refers to:assets/yourmod/textures/entity/yourtexture.png public RenderEntityGamingOnCaffeine(ModelBase par1ModelBase, float par2) { super(par1ModelBase, par2); } @Override protected ResourceLocation getEntityTexture(Entity par1Entity) { return Your_Texture; } }
January 26, 201510 yr This might help https://github.com/Draco18s/Artifacts/blob/master/main/java/com/draco18s/artifacts/client/PedestalRenderer.java#L57-107 Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice. Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked. DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.
January 26, 201510 yr Author This might help https://github.com/Draco18s/Artifacts/blob/master/main/java/com/draco18s/artifacts/client/PedestalRenderer.java#L57-107 The highlighted part of the code that you posted is throwing errors on the this.field statements I also get an error on double angle = Math.toRadians(entity.rotation); Sorry if I forgot to mention that this is 1.7.10 I need to change that in the title but it looks like entity.rotation isn't a thing. as for the this.field statments I get the option to create a field or create a constant and both throw up even more errors.
January 26, 201510 yr That's because those lines are referring to my TileEntity. You'll have to convert that to your mob, where appropriate. Do note that my TE rendered the label on one face whereas nametags should be rendered flat to the camera's view plane (ie. you shouldn't rotate it). I'm not that good at coding yet, Since I've recently started but I'll give it a shot!
January 27, 201510 yr Author I was looking around and found this. protected void renderLivingLabel(EntityLiving par1EntityLiving, String par2Str, double par3, double par5, double par7, int par9) { double d3 = par1EntityLiving.getDistanceSqToEntity(this.renderManager.livingPlayer); if (d3 <= (double)(par9 * par9)) { FontRenderer fontrenderer = this.getFontRendererFromRenderManager(); float f = 1.6F; float f1 = 0.016666668F * f; GL11.glPushMatrix(); GL11.glTranslatef((float)par3 + 0.0F, (float)par5 + par1EntityLiving.height + 0.5F, (float)par7); GL11.glNormal3f(0.0F, 1.0F, 0.0F); GL11.glRotatef(-this.renderManager.playerViewY, 0.0F, 1.0F, 0.0F); GL11.glRotatef(this.renderManager.playerViewX, 1.0F, 0.0F, 0.0F); GL11.glScalef(-f1, -f1, f1); GL11.glDisable(GL11.GL_LIGHTING); GL11.glDepthMask(false); GL11.glDisable(GL11.GL_DEPTH_TEST); GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_BLEND); GL11.glBlendFunc(GL11.GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL11.GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA); Tessellator tessellator = Tessellator.instance; byte b0 = 0; if (par2Str.equals("deadmau5")) { b0 = -10; } GL11.glDisable(GL11.GL_TEXTURE_2D); tessellator.startDrawingQuads(); int j = fontrenderer.getStringWidth(par2Str) / 2; tessellator.setColorRGBA_F(0.0F, 0.0F, 0.0F, 0.25F); tessellator.addVertex((double)(-j - 1), (double)(-1 + b0), 0.0D); tessellator.addVertex((double)(-j - 1), (double)(8 + b0), 0.0D); tessellator.addVertex((double)(j + 1), (double)(8 + b0), 0.0D); tessellator.addVertex((double)(j + 1), (double)(-1 + b0), 0.0D); tessellator.draw(); GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_TEXTURE_2D); fontrenderer.drawString(par2Str, -fontrenderer.getStringWidth(par2Str) / 2, b0, 553648127); GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_DEPTH_TEST); GL11.glDepthMask(true); fontrenderer.drawString(par2Str, -fontrenderer.getStringWidth(par2Str) / 2, b0, -1); GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_LIGHTING); GL11.glDisable(GL11.GL_BLEND); GL11.glColor4f(1.0F, 1.0F, 1.0F, 1.0F); GL11.glPopMatrix(); } } I get no errors with this but how would I set the nametag on Spawn? Is there a forge event bus for an onSpawn event? If so how would I set the nametag on that event?

January 27, 201510 yr If it's your own custom mob class, you can set the name directly in your entity's constructor or in onSpawnWithEgg or pretty much anywhere else in your class - no need for a Forge Event. http://i.imgur.com/NdrFdld.png[/img]
January 28, 201510 yr Author If it's your own custom mob class, you can set the name directly in your entity's constructor or in onSpawnWithEgg or pretty much anywhere else in your class - no need for a Forge Event. Well my class extends EntityMob So I guess I'll look in it.
January 28, 201510 yr Author Forgive me if I'm doing this wrong but looked around the forge events and stuff. I did this but it still doesn't work I could be missing something simple or I'm just doing this completely wrong, @SubscribeEvent public void EntityConstructing(EntityConstructing event){ setCustomNameTag("GamingOnCaffeine"); setAlwaysRenderNameTag(true); } As far as I know that the EntityConstructing is already an existing event so I shouldn't have to register and event handler.
January 28, 201510 yr No, don't use events. Put that code in your entity's constructor, like I said earlier. http://i.imgur.com/NdrFdld.png[/img]
January 28, 201510 yr Author No, don't use events. Put that code in your entity's constructor, like I said earlier. Ah I misunderstood what you said. I got it working, Thanks! Although I could have sworn I've done this and it didn't work. But it's working now so I'm not complaining
