Hey. I'm making a mod and I have no clue how to add custom tool tips to my items. I know NBT would be one way but I don't know how to implement it into my src code. i've also tried addInformation but couldn't figure it out :/

Edit:

All of my items are listed under one file called MItems. I'm adding the class src.

package com.WorseThanVanilla.Item;

import com.WorseThanVanilla.creativetabs.MCreativeTabs;
import com.WorseThanVanilla.lib.RefStrings;
import cpw.mods.fml.common.registry.GameRegistry;
import net.minecraft.creativetab.CreativeTabs;
import net.minecraft.item.Item;

public class MItem {

public static void mainRegistry() {
	initializeItem();
	registerItem();
}

public static Item deformedBottle;
public static Item enderbone;
public static Item potionOfRevival;
public static Item happyMeal;
public static Item revivedBeef;
public static Item revivedChicken;
public static Item revivedPork;

public static void initializeItem(){
	deformedBottle = new Item().setUnlocalizedName("deformedBottle").setCreativeTab(MCreativeTabs.tabWTV).setTextureName(RefStrings.MODID + ":deformedBottle");
	enderbone = new Item().setUnlocalizedName("enderbone").setCreativeTab(MCreativeTabs.tabWTV).setTextureName(RefStrings.MODID + ":enderbone");
	potionOfRevival = new Item().setUnlocalizedName("potionOfRevival").setCreativeTab(MCreativeTabs.tabWTV).setTextureName(RefStrings.MODID + ":potionOfRevival");
	happyMeal = new Item().setUnlocalizedName("happyMeal").setCreativeTab(MCreativeTabs.tabWTV).setTextureName(RefStrings.MODID + ":happyMeal");
	revivedBeef = new Item().setUnlocalizedName("revivedBeef").setCreativeTab(MCreativeTabs.tabWTV).setTextureName(RefStrings.MODID + ":revivedBeef");
	revivedChicken = new Item().setUnlocalizedName("revivedChicken").setCreativeTab(MCreativeTabs.tabWTV).setTextureName(RefStrings.MODID + ":revivedChicken");
	revivedPork = new Item().setUnlocalizedName("revivedPork").setCreativeTab(MCreativeTabs.tabWTV).setTextureName(RefStrings.MODID + ":revivedPork");

}

public static void registerItem() {
	GameRegistry.registerItem(deformedBottle, deformedBottle.getUnlocalizedName());
	GameRegistry.registerItem(enderbone, enderbone.getUnlocalizedName());
	GameRegistry.registerItem(potionOfRevival, potionOfRevival.getUnlocalizedName());
	GameRegistry.registerItem(happyMeal, happyMeal.getUnlocalizedName());
	GameRegistry.registerItem(revivedBeef, revivedBeef.getUnlocalizedName());
	GameRegistry.registerItem(revivedChicken, revivedChicken.getUnlocalizedName());
	GameRegistry.registerItem(revivedPork, revivedPork.getUnlocalizedName());
}

}

Well rather than just using the Item class for all your items, create a new class, make it extend Item, in that class override addInformation. In your main mod file where you initialize the item, do new YourItemClass();

How exactly would I implement that? That's my main issue. I  tried it before but couldn't figure out how to implement it.

For example

MyCustomBlock::
/**
   * allows items to add custom lines of information to the mouseover description
   */
  @Override
  public void addInformation(ItemStack itemStack, EntityPlayer entityPlayer, List textList, boolean useAdvancedItemTooltips)
  {
    textList.add("Right click: select blocks,");
    textList.add("       then: toggle drag on/off");
    textList.add("Left click: deselect");
    textList.add("Right hold: place the copy");
    textList.add("Left hold: undo copy");
    textList.add("Mouse wheel: rotate selection");
    textList.add("CTRL+right: flip selection");
  }

Hey TGG, so I tried to implement it but it still shows no Tip. Am I doing this correctly?

package com.WorseThanVanilla.Item;

import java.util.List;

import net.minecraft.entity.player.EntityPlayer;
import net.minecraft.item.ItemStack;
import net.minecraft.util.EnumChatFormatting;

public class ItemX extends MItem {

@Override
public void addInformation(ItemStack itemStack, EntityPlayer entityPlayer, List textList, boolean useAdvancedItemTooltips)
{
  textList.add("This may be helpful");
}
}

What is your MItem? If it extends Item and your item is actually initialized using ItemX, then the problem is elsewhere.

Could you please share whole code including item initialization, registry?

1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.
