Posted July 11, 201510 yr Hey, I'm attempting to make an item take damage over time. I plan to have the item last 20 active minutes, so 20 x 60 x 20 ticks = 24000. Anyways, the issue is I can't get the item to take damage. package noahc3.AbilityStones; import net.minecraft.entity.Entity; import net.minecraft.entity.EntityLivingBase; import net.minecraft.item.Item; import net.minecraft.item.ItemStack; import net.minecraft.potion.Potion; import net.minecraft.potion.PotionEffect; import net.minecraft.world.World; public class ItemRegenerationStone extends Item { //use timer in ticks (24000) public static final int USE_TIMER = 24000; public ItemRegenerationStone() { setMaxStackSize(1); setMaxDamage(USE_TIMER); setNoRepair(); } @Override public void onUpdate(ItemStack itemstack, World world, Entity entity, int i, boolean flag) { //stuff to do when active ((EntityLivingBase) entity).addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.regeneration.id, 20, 1)); } } So I wan't it to lose 1 durability per tick. (so 20/second, hence the really high max damage), what I need to know is what do I use to make it gain a damage? I've seen both attemptDamageItem() and damageItem(), but I'm not sure which one to use and how to use it. Any help would be appreciated!
July 11, 201510 yr Well, you should use one of those and pass a type of damage and the entity repainted (the player, null with throw errors). Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice. Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked. DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.
July 11, 201510 yr Author I figured out how to do it, but yea, I decided to move the timer to NBT to stop the weird jumpy stuff it does when you hold it in your hand. Thanks anyways.
