Ok so I'm trying to install forge-1.8-11.14350 (installer) for minecraft version 1.8.8 I run the .exe as the admin but I always get this "there was a problem writing the launch profile, is it write protected?" I click ok but only get "this program was not installed correctly. . .install using recommended settings?. . .it installed correctly?" I use the install using recommended settings option but same thing "there was a problem writing the launch profile. . ."

I found a post similar to this with the solution being reboot your computer. I have tried this and nothing, still same error. I found a youtube video saying most common issues arise due to java and that I should uninstall all my java related files and load these ones.

http://java.com/en/download/

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html    (jdk-8u65-windows-i586.exe)

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html    (jre-8u65-windows-x64.exe)

all accessed on oct/29/2015, files were for windows x64, and were .exe's

I also found a forum post saying forge 1.8 doesn't support or is supported (which ever) by java 1.8 and that the poster should downgrade to 1.7 but when I followed the link it was to the Java dev tools that i had already downloaded.

apologies for not having my logs I am unfamiliar with them, if they're needed to help solve my problem please instruct me on their retrieval.

Even though I have no "forge" profile, and the mods in my mods folder (which I had to create) have zero presence in the game? I'll go check their sites but it still seems like "Error there was a problem writing the launch profile, is it write protected?" is still not installed right.

Solution.

I have resolved the issue. Indeed it did install successfully however something about my computer stops it from writing the profile that accesses the version. I haven't found a way to retrieve the "forge" profile but in my existing profile I am able to select forge version what ever as my version of minecraft.

in edit profile->use version select the version of forge you need for the mod save profile and play.

the only draw back is, I have to do this each time I load as it doesn't actually save the changes.

I would be interested in seeing which thing on your computer prevents the writing to that folder.

However, the 'Forge' profile is just a simple profile with the forge version already selected. Nothing fancy.

If it ever doesn't popup for you just create a new profile manually and select the version you want.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

    • I checked the hash like you said and it came back as OK each time, also may I ask what you mean by debug mode during installation?
    • My name is Clara Bennett, and I almost let cryptocurrency destroy me.  Two years ago, after selling my green e-commerce startup, I plunged headfirst into the crypto world. yield farming , I was all in. I believed I wasn’t just investing; I was participating in the next great technological revolution. Within months, my portfolio skyrocketed to $200,000. I even started sketching ideas for a blockchain-based microloan platform to empower small entrepreneurs around the world. Crypto felt like pure freedom and limitless potential. I thought I was untouchable. I thought wrong. It happened through a single email. It looked like a standard security update from my wallet provider polished, routine, and harmless. I interacted with it briefly, thinking it was legitimate. Hours later, I checked my account and realized my entire wallet had been drained. Every token, every coin, gone. I sat there in disbelief, replaying the moment over and over. I had built my career on being cautious with technology, yet somehow, I had still been compromised. The blockchain’s promise of "irreversible transactions" now felt like a cruel joke  .Devastated and desperate, I scoured forums for solutions. Most people told me there was no hope once crypto is gone, it’s gone. Still, I refused to give up. That’s when I stumbled across FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER . I decided to reach out. From the beginning, they were empathetic, and honest about the challenges. They explained their process step-by-step, focusing on tracing transactions, tracking down phishing operators, and leveraging advanced blockchain analytics. It wasn't an overnight fix. It took weeks of meticulous investigation, technical recovery work, and legal coordination .But in the end, their persistence paid off. FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER  was able to trace the stolen funds across multiple wallets and exchanges. Through a combination of technical expertise and strategic action, they managed to recover the full amount I had lost. Today, my crypto portfolio is intact once again. More importantly, I’ve regained my confidence though I am now much wiser and far more cautious. I learned the hard way that while crypto offers incredible opportunities, it also demands extreme vigilance. Thanks to FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER , I recovered my lost funds and  also reclaimed my future in the digital economy. • 1. Did you try to remove your system cache or something? 2. Also check jar hash before installing (if it's ok): sha1sum jar_name.jar > jar_name.jar.sha1 sha1sum -c jar_name.jar.sha1 Do this a few times with some interval. This can find out if your hash can be different somehow (garbage files inside).  Also try using sha224sum / sha256sum / sha384sum / sha512sum / shasum. And do you have any debug mode during installation?   UPDATED: and it can be just fixing by chmod'ing jar file. Check its -lZ
