Hi, so I downloaded forge, the 1.8.8 version, youtubed a load of tutorials on how to install mods, I do everything right, get the right versions, but none of the mods work, I either get error messages or forge doesn't detect them. The only ones I've tried, when I've downloaded them have been .jar files instead of zip files.

First-time posters are so cute when they say that...

Just what segment of "Forge" did you download and install? To use mods, you need the client installer. If you're posting questions here, then you should have set up a development environment, started programming in Java, and hit a snag in your design. Show your most recent source code and log file. If you're not designing a mod, then I think there's a separate forum for you. (EDIT: And here we are!)

PS: 1.8 and 1.8.8 are not alike, so many mods for 1.8 will not run in 1.8.8.

The debugger is a powerful and necessary tool in any IDE, so learn how to use it. You'll be able to tell us more and get better help here if you investigate your runtime problems in the debugger before posting.
