Hi Everyone

(yes i should probably update my forge to the newer version but that'll take forever atm and I havent been on in a while but) How would you make an itemstack indestructible (and by that i mean if it gets thrown into lava or gets left out in the world the item wont ever be destroyed no matter what happens to it)? Is this even possible?

Hey, Long time no see.

ItemStack can exist in more forms than just in-world one.

But for in-world one:

You need to make custom EntityItem (extend) and return it in Item#getEntityItem and mark Item#hasCustomEntity

Big note: I have no idea if those are correct names, nor if they exist in 1.7.10.

If they are 1.8+ only, you use events:

You do the same, then instead of using Item hooks (mentioned) you use EntityJoinWorldEvent - check instance, itemStack and Item of joining Entity and kill it if it is proper item. Then you spawn your custom one with same itemStack.

As to how make it indestructible:

Just override some methods and make it not react to lava nor have update item-death timer (lookup vanilla src).

As to ANY other forms (inventory, chests, mobs, etc.)

Is is proven that it would be impossible to cover all cases of itemStack movement across world (meaning there is always a way that itemStack instance will disappear) - what I'm saying - tracking item is impossible.

1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.

Create a class that extends

EntityItem

and overrides

isEntityInvulnerable

to return

true

. This makes the item entity immune to all damage.

In your

Item

class, override the following methods:

  • Item#hasCustomEntity

    to return

    true

  • Item#createEntity

    to create an instance of your

    EntityItem

    class with the specified location and

    ItemStack

  • Item#getEntityLifespan

    to return

    Integer.MAX_VALUE

This will spawn an invulnerable

EntityItem

with a lifespan of

2^31-1

ticks or approximately 3.4 years.

If you want an item that actually never expires, you'll need to override

EntityItem#onUpdate

to do exactly the same thing as the existing method and its super method but not check the age/lifespan.

In my item.java class I did the following

@Override
 public boolean hasCustomEntity(ItemStack stack){
        return true;
    }
@Override
 public Entity createEntity(World world, Entity location, ItemStack itemstack){
	System.out.println("HERE");
        return new EntityIndestructableItem(world, location.posX, location.posY, location.posZ, itemstack);
    }
@Override
 public int getEntityLifespan(ItemStack itemStack, World world){
        return  Integer.MAX_VALUE;
    }

public class EntityIndestructableItem extends EntityItem {

  public EntityIndestructableItem(World worldIn, double x, double y, double z) {
    super(worldIn, x, y, z);
    isImmuneToFire = true;
  }

  public EntityIndestructableItem(World world, double x, double y, double z, ItemStack stack) {
    super(world, x, y, z, stack);
    isImmuneToFire = true;
  }

  public EntityIndestructableItem(World worldIn) {
    super(worldIn);
    isImmuneToFire = true;
  }

  @Override
  public boolean isEntityInvulnerable()
  {
      return true;
  }

  @Override
  public boolean attackEntityFrom(DamageSource source, float amount) {
    if(source.getDamageType().equals(DamageSource.outOfWorld.damageType)) {
      return true;
    }
    // prevent any damage besides out of world
    return false;
  }
}

but now I cannot drop the item on the ground and the if the item is on the ground then it disapears when lava kills it and when I take lava away the item reappears

I figured out that my entity was invisible (I had to register the entity in common proxy which i fixed) so now when the lava goes to destroy the item it persists however I still cannot drop the item once I pick it up. Any ideas what would cause the item not to be droppable using the Q btn?

if I change

@Override
 public Entity createEntity(World world, Entity location, ItemStack itemstack){
	System.out.println("HERE");
        return new EntityIndestructableItem(world, location.posX, location.posY, location.posZ, itemstack);

to

@Override
 public Entity createEntity(World world, Entity location, ItemStack itemstack){
	System.out.println("HERE");
        return new EntityIndestructableItem(world, location.posX, location.posY, location.posZ);

I can drop the item but it immediately turns into a stone block which i pick up immediately.... anyone know what the issue is?

Create a class that extends

isEntityInvulnerable

to return

true

. This makes the item entity immune to all damage.

In your

Item

class, override the following methods:

  • Item#hasCustomEntity

    to return

    true

  • Item#createEntity

    to create an instance of your

    EntityItem

    class with the specified location and

    ItemStack

  • Item#getEntityLifespan

    to return

    Integer.MAX_VALUE

This will spawn an invulnerable

EntityItem

with a lifespan of

2^31-1

ticks or approximately 3.4 years.

If you want an item that actually never expires, you'll need to override

EntityItem#onUpdate

to do exactly the same thing as the existing method and its super method but not check the age/lifespan.

So As you can see i followed your suggestions and the itemstack is invulnerable but once I pick it up I cannot drop the itemstack from my hotbar or inventory. would you know why?

You actually need to copy the motion and pickup delay from the old

Entity

when you spawn the invulnerable one.

You can see my implementation here.

    • I need to know what mod is doing this crash, i mean the mod xenon is doing the crash but i want to know who mod is incompatible with xenon, but please i need to know a solution if i need to replace xenon, i cant use optifine anymore and all the other mods i tried(sodium, lithium, vulkan, etc) doesn't work, it crash the game.
    • I have been trying to solve a consistent crashing issue on my brother's computer where it will crash during the "Scanning Mod Candidates" phase of the loading process that starts when you click the play button on the Minecraft launcher. The issue seems to stem from a missing library that it mentions in the log file I provide below. I might I'm missing the bigger issue here for a smaller one but hopefully someone can find what I'm missing. Here's all of the stuff that I've been able to figure out so far: 1. It has nothing to do with mods, the crash happened with a real modpack, and even when I made a custom modpack and launched it without putting ANY mods into it (That is where the log file comes from by the way). 2. I have tried to find this class like a file in the Minecraft folders, but I've had no luck finding it (I don't think it works like that, but since I really don't understand how it works, I just figured I'd try). 3. I haven't seen anyone else have this issue before. 4. I know that my modpack (with mods) does work since I've run it on my computer, and it works fantastic. For some reason my brother's computer can't seem to run anything through curseforge. 5. This is for Minecraft version 1.20.1, Minecraft launcher version 3.4.50-2.1.3, forge 47.3.0, and curseforge app version 1.256.0.21056 6. My brother is using a Dell laptop from 6 years ago running Windows 10 (If you think more info on this would help, please ask as I do have it. I'm just choosing not to put it here for now). 7. I have reinstalled the curseforge app and installed Minecraft version 1.20.1. I have not reinstalled Minecraft or forge 47.3.0 but I didn't know if that would help. 8. I had an error code of 1 Please let me know if there is anything else that I am missing that you would like me to add to this post/add in a comment! Lastly, many thanks in advance to whoever can help! ------------- LOG FILE (latest.log) ------------- (from /Users/<NAME OF USER>/cursforge/minecraft/Instances/<THE NAME OF MY EMPTY MODPACK>/logs/latest.log) (This was made after running an empty modpack with same versions for all apps) ("[REDACTED]" is not the actual text from the log, it is me replacing text I figured wouldn't be necessary for fixing and would hurt my privacy) https://pastebin.com/hxXvGGEK ------------- DEBUG.LOG (I realized that I should have put this here first after I had done all of the work on putting latest.log in) -------------------- (again, "[REDACTED]" is not the actual text from the log, it is me replacing text I figured wouldn't be necessary for fixing and would hurt my privacy) https://pastebin.com/Fmh8GHYs
    • Pastebin... https://pastebin.com/Y3iZ85L5   Brand new profile, does not point to a mod as far as I can tell, my fatal message just has something about mixins. Don't know much about reading logs like this, but am genuinely stuck, please help. Java updated, pc restarted.
    • I was playing minecraft, forge 47.3.0 and 1.20.1, but when i tried to play minecraft now only crashes, i need help please. here is the crash report: https://securelogger.net/files/e6640a4f-9ed0-4acc-8d06-2e500c77aaaf.txt
