[1.10.2] The Elytra - More Information On It?

Alright this may be quite a dumb question. But I was looking through some code and really can't find anything about the Elytra, other than the ItemElyta class in the vanilla code. I have done a number of searches and have not turned up anything good relating to Forge and "Elytra" creation.

 

For example if someone want to "cough" create different variants of the Elytra that have armor and stuff. How could one do this? Can one even do this, or is the reason nothing turns up with searches related to modifying the Elytra is because people aren't sure how to do it?

 

EDIT: After searching around these boards I have seen a handful of threads that try to replicate it and none of them seem to succeed. Although I did seem to find a thread that had the Elytra code posted. Perhaps the reason it isn't really done is because it is very difficult?

Elytra physics are hardcoded into entity. Look there.

If "instanceof" is used - you could extend ElytraItem with custom ones, but if item singleton check is used - nothing much you can do.

 

Other solution is subscribing to LivingUpdateEvent of PlayerTickEvent and simulating Elytra physics on your own, totally surpassing vanilla hardcode.

1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

I say that because I haven't tested it. Looking at the code it should work, but I haven't actually checked if it works myself, mostly because I just found it now.
