Greetings everyone.

I'm running a modded server and recently did a major update (not a version update, just a lot of the mods had minor updates that we applied, which was a lot in one go).

Since then the server has had lagspikes every 30seconds or so, even though the ticks per second seem fine in between.

During the update we also switched from running the server with a modified minecraft_server.jar to using the method of running forge directly (explained here: http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Installation/Universal, the section about vanilla server).

So, I have several questions:

[*]Could the lagspikes be caused by how we run forge, would it then be better to switch to a modded minecraft_server.jar?

[*]Is there any way to get proper metrics from the mods etc. to see how much memory they use, how often the read/write to and from the disc, etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Profiling snapshots or locking.

Forge does not add any extraordinary stress onto minecraft.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

Would love to do profiling, but I've never been able to get it to work properly on windows 8, and the server is hosted remotely.

I'll try googling around and asking friends, but I doubt I'll be able to get the profiling thingy
