I am using the 1.7.10 version of forge, and when I run it without mods in the mod folder, the game opens fine, but whenever I put any mods in the folder, it crashes before even opening the game. I have no idea what I'm doing, as I'm new to modding in general.

You need to update, 1.7.10 is no longer supported on these forums.
