issues with modding 1.10.2

I have been having troubling trying to get 1.10.2 to work with forge so I tried to install 1.7.10 in case it was forge in general or just that version but I can run forge on 1.7.10 without issue.  I tried the recommended (1.10.2 - 12.18.3.2185 ) and most recent version (1.10.2 - 12.18.3.2316) of forge for that version to no avail.  I have also tried jarfix and when I searched under the error I saw in the log about 'Mod mercurius_updater is missing the required element 'name'. Substituting mercurius_updater' I was sent to install GeForce Hotfix driver version 378.57 but received the error message 'The NVIDIA Installer cannot continue

The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.'

I haven't installed any mods until I am sure this has worked for my mods folder is empty.
