So I'm more or less just trying to track how metadata properties get set with a basic flower with color meta. When I place in the world, I only get the color=white variety, no matter what the color was when I had it in my inventory. What's up? I'm just not really understanding something I think.

I know naming conventions/etc are probably not the best way. I'm genuinely attempting to learn what I'm doing. I've noticed that the replies on here tend to lean on the "learn java" side.

ItemBlock always places the IBlockState corresponding to block metadata 0 because it doesn't override Item#getMetadata(int). You need to use a class that extends ItemBlock and overrides this to return the appropriate block metadata for the given item metadata, e.g. ItemColoredItemMultiTexture or ItemCloth.

ItemMultiTexture and ItemColored are general-purpose classes for blocks with subtypes, ItemCloth is specialised for blocks that use their metadata to store a dye colour.

Please don't PM me to ask for help. Asking your question in a public thread preserves it for people who are having the same problem in the future.

(Because white is black and black is white; no really, the metadata sequences are in reverse order...)

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

Start with ItemColored and tell us if (when) you run into trouble.

The debugger is a powerful and necessary tool in any IDE, so learn how to use it. You'll be able to tell us more and get better help here if you investigate your runtime problems in the debugger before posting.
