Help with directional blocks [1.12]

I've looked at a bunch of tutorials and read the forge docs but nothing has worked thus far,

Also both of these blocks sound like stone when walked on and broken so i need to know what's going on there too.

That sound problem can be fixed by

setSoundType(SoundType.WOOD)

in the block's constructor

but that directional problem...

maybe you can add a PropertyDirection state?

If you're doing log-y things, you might be interested in extending BlockLogsBase (IIRC).

Are there any specific methods i need to implement in order to make my log block function like a log, and can i just use the vanilla blockstates for logs and models as templates for my log(s)

Look at BlockLogsOld and BlockLogsNew
