Help with increasing world height?

Hey i was just wondering if anyone knew what i need to do to both increase the max height of the world and and increasing the height that terrain will generate to.  Im trying to do somthing similar as the old dyamic height mod.

If I am correct, the world height is set via the world file format(Anvil) and has a max build height of 256, but I could be wrong. So, I would assume if you wanted to change it then you'd have to a modify the Anvil file format, or b create your own file format and try to make it compatible with the vanilla Minecraft file format.

another way you could do it is make a custom world type

Well I found I am able to increase the max build height but I can't figure out how to get the terrain to generate up to a higher height
