Posted March 16, 20187 yr I'm trying but just not understanding the new way metadata works. Last time I modded was back in 1.7.10. I'm just not getting the Enum variants code at all. All I'm trying to do is brush up on the new way by making a basic block that has different textures based on what it's crafted with, like the 16 colors of wool or 4 types of planks.

March 16, 20187 yr Author So better to just make a new block for each texture even if it's the same block but just changing the color?

They're easy. In fact, color is already done for you. There's a class called BlockColor you can extend. Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice. Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked. DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

As Draco18s said, it is best to learn how block states and variants work. However, if you're really stuck trying to understand it it would actually work to make new block for each. Not elegant, but it is logically a legitimate way to implement it. Check out my tutorials here: http://jabelarminecraft.blogspot.com/
