Leather Armor Color Mod

Hello! I don't have much experience with mods but I have been doing research and I want to create a mod that completely changes the texture of leather armour when dyed a specific pattern. Please, someone tell me if this is doable for an adventurous mod-noob and were to get started

What exactly do you mean? You want different patterns for each dye color (different textures for different colors)? Or you want to just change the texture for leather armor generally (one new texture applied in all cases)? Or you want to just change texture in case of dyed any color (two textures, one for un-dyed and one for dyed)?
