'Out of Date' error after updating to latest version

Hello. Possibly a very simple question, haven't played in some time. Figured I'd grab the latest server before I ran the game. I grabbed the latest Forge (1.12.2 - 14.23.5.2768), but when running Minecraft I get the message that it (the server) is out of date and I can't run the game. Minecraft was also up to date. Any clue why I'm getting this? Thanks for any help!
