yeah, i know this is a forge forums but really i don't know where else to ask my question. i'm trying to download optifine and whenever i click to start the aplication that installs optifine it opens a cmd window and immediately closes. i have the correct version of minecraft installed and i do have java installed too so i don't understand why it isn't working. java is up to date. The cmd window opens for a brief second before closing. sometimes, text appears before closing. the texts reads "could not find or load main class"

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

Mojang Launcher: When using the Mojang launcher debug.log is found in .minecraft\logs.

Curse/Overwolf: If you are using the Curse Launcher, their configurations break Forge's log settings, fortunately there is an easier workaround than I originally thought, this works even with Curse's installation of the Minecraft launcher as long as it is not launched THROUGH Twitch:

For some reason your computer is trying to run the file the wrong way.

It's trying to use Java which is correct but it's trying to run it with the wrong arguments.

Try opening command line or powershell in that folder and run java -jar OptiFine_1.13.2_HD_U_E6.jar, see if that works.

its pretty strange because I've downloaded Forge a couple days ago and it worked. maybe i should restart my computer?

This is the true solution: Open PowerShell then drag and drop cmd.exe into PowerShell then press enter a command line window should pop up then type in " java -jar " but don't press enter yet then drag and drop your Optifine download into the command line press enter and Optifine should be installed!
