Minecraft.getMinecraft().world.getTileEntity returns null every time

Hi, every time I call

Minecraft.getMinecraft().world.getTileEntity

to get a tile entity at a given location ( in this case a sign ), then it returns null. , and the position is given using

event.getPos()

given by the event

BlockEvent.PlaceEvent

I've already tested and verified that PlaceEvent IS called when the sign is placed.

1. Do not use the instance of Minecraft to get the world, as this will only work on the client. The event contains the world that the block placing took place in, so get the world with event.getWorld() or something.

2. The tile entity isn’t created when the BlockPlace event triggers. If you are trying to get the tile entity of your own block when it is placed down, you might be looking for overriding Block#onBlockPlacedBy.

P.S. I like your name.

Does the block place event have access to the tile entity? IIRC the tile is placed down afterwards.

I'm pretty sure you're right.  I guess one way of circumventing this might be to schedule a server task from the event.  The timing for a task that happens "soon" should be fine if you're just altering sign text or something.

        FMLCommonHandler.instance().getMinecraftServerInstance().addScheduledTask(() ->
        {
            //Do stuff
        });

You should only call this from the logical server.  Not sure if there's a better way to access it or not.

The event is also cancellable, make sure to handle this appropriately. I think you want the method in item that allows access to the tile.
